A wiki allows everyday users to freely create and edit content on any topic of their choice. Most websites and webpages are read-only, so the content remains static until the site is updated by the host. In a wiki individual users can update and edit existing content and add new content at any time. Users can also utilize discussion forums to exchange and debate ideas, answer questions, and discuss common challenges.

HMCwiki began in February 2006 and hopes to grow into the largest information resource that supports performance improvement in healthcare. The content of HMCwiki is free, written collectively by anyone in the healthcare community.
