Set expectations

From HMCwiki

The Senior Management at each facility must, at some point, set expectations - determine what it's asking of its operating and clinical managers. Without an unambiguous, non-negotiable, cost management goal set by a vision for success . . . there is no significant progress in the long pull. Carping about data will be ceaseless without a strategic need to get better that is independent of the benchmark.

These financial and cost goals can be made with a full knowledge of what opportunities are defined by the benchmark, but this vision for success is key.

Once these goals are set, communicated clearly and with resolve . . . the benchmark becomes an important resource to achieving what success demands.

Your facilities need to determine whether these goals will be established as the first year's benchmark is prepared . . . or whether the first year will be a "training" and shakedown year with the hardwired goals set in year two.
