Rehabilitation Services experiences with JCAHO
From HMCwiki
Here is an excerpt related to Rehabilitation Services experiences with JCAHO from the JCAHO-sponsored conference " Unannounced Surveys for Hospitals Teleconference" on Thursday, March 9 2006. In it, JCAHO asked a small, medium, and large hospital that had the unannounced surveys to speak about their experiences and answer a few questions. The following has been directly copied from the transcript of that call, which can be downloaded in it's entirety here .
Q&A
QUESTION: I want to know if you could speak to what the surveyor focused on with respect to
therapy services?
WANDA COOPER: Well that depended on the patients that they were tracing. They would
pick up a chart and review the services and if the patient had therapy they spoke to our physical therapist and our occupational therapist and actually we have a speech therapist as well and he talked to the surveyor. The surveyor was interested in his background and training and how he was certified to do various tests. We have an inter-disciplinary team meeting once a week for all our patients, and the surveyor was interested in attending that team meeting. So all the disciplines are gathered around the table to talk about the patients as a group and therapy is there. So he listened to that and that’s how we involved the therapy staff right through a patient tracer. He did then, of course, have some of their files. He wanted to see certification and so forth, so he had some HR files pulled.
