E-procurement
From HMCwiki
E-procurement leverages the internet and can allow hospitals to significantly increase productivity in supply chain activities. Potential savings in the cost of purchase transactions can be dramatic when you consider that a single paper-based purchase order may cost anywhere from $75 to $140 to process, while processing a transaction online can be as low as $6 to $10[1]. In addition to this it is important to note the amount of time spent manually processing transactions; approximately 40% of purchasers and 60% accounts payable time[2]. Clearly utilizing e-procurement technologies can have a significant impact on productivity.
Also, e-procurement allows organizations to purchase supplies directly from manufactures bypassing intermediaries through B2B market places like the Global Healthcare Exchange.
